I picked a winner

Thursday, May 12, 2005

OK, latest in the D-divorce saga. He goes to meet with the lawyer yesterday. I knew he was going. By 10 (PM), he hadn't called me yet to give me any details. So, I called him. He was studying (he has a final tonight). I asked him what the lawyer said. Below is a summary of the conversation, but I will bold the direct quotes. "Well, I got a big packet of information that we have to go through. We have to agree on stuff about the kids, education, medical, visitation, you know. And then, once I file, we wait 60 days. Then we have to go to court I guess. And once we go to court, it takes like two minutes, piece of cake, and we're done. " OMG! Mother F***ER! Eleven friggen years, and in two minutes, piece of cake, we're done. So, of course, I got a bit upset. And then he said "Look, I don't have time to do this tonight. I have to study for my final.". Fine. You say, to my face (well, over the phone) that in two minutes our entire relationship will be over, piece of cake, and you can't take five minutes to grovel! At least he's buying me a new hot-water heater.

  • In some states, (Not sure about yours) you don't even have to go to court. I did all my stuff, brought it to the county courthouse and then a few weeks later got a notice in the mail that I was divorced. Kind of a surreal moment, to be sure.

  • I'm sorry. This sucks. I've been there myself.

Sometimes selfish people do stupid things that alter lives, most of the time unfairly. And sometimes the best you can do, just isn't good enough. But you are lucky to have found out while you have a ot of vibrant years ahead of you that the guy you married is a jerk.

My divorce was so pleasant I stayed away from everything for 7 years. I did eventually meet and marry a most wonderful human being, and today I have 2 daughters, 4 dogs, a companion I trust, and a peace of mind I never have had my whole life.

  • My divorce was a postal affair as well; kind of strange to see the end on a piece of papers after five years. Still, you'll have a heater to enjoy

  • I know it sounds so curt after so much time, but believe me when I tell you you'll be EXTREMELY happy if it is in fact over in five minutes.

Quick and painless is always better. Doesn't the bandaid hurt less when you rip it off fast, rather than pulling it slowly?

You have a lot going for you, and there's so much more to life than dealing with misery. Get out there and live it! :)

Quick, yes. Painless, no. I'm not wallowing in misery. But, it still stings when an off-hand, callous comment is made.

  • Hello, FTS sent me.
I hope it all goes "well" and I'm sure you'll be very happy once this is all over. :)
