Off to see Dr. Pain

Monday, June 20, 2005

Knee was a little stiff this morning after my long run yesterday, but didn't bother me during the run. So, I'm off to be tortured, er, examined by Dr. Pain now. I'm sure you're all on the edge of your seats, waiting for a diagnosis and detailed description of my knee. Why this is important, I don't know. Have I become so dull I have nothing more to talk about than my knee? Maybe I'm just avoiding more serious subjects...
Update: Looks to be soft tissue related, no bone injury. So, using Active Release Therapy he stretched me, massaged me and otherwise caused great pain to both my left and right knees, quads and hips. Then he did something to my back that made me sound like a bowl of Rice Crispies. But I didn't cry! (He commented on my high tolerance for pain. I'm no wimp!) Then he showed me some stretches (because I admitted I don't stretch enough) that should help me as well. Walking out of there I felt like I had run sprints for 30 minutes. I wasn't sore from my run yesterday, but I will be sore from Dr. Pain. It's already started. He said if I do the stretches he showed me and then come back to see him maybe two more times, I should feel much better. He's treated professional athletes, runners, triathletes, and hosts of other exercise crazy people, so I feel like I'm in good hands. It would be nice to run pain-free!

  • My husband has had surgery on both knees so I know the face of that kind of pain. I hope the doctor goes well for you.

    How's FTS??

  • Eek, sounds painful. But hopefully its what you need to get you back to feeling good. Or, maybe you need to find a doctor named "Dr. Happy" instead of Dr. Pain ;)

  • So this doctor takes your attention away from the pain in your knee by giving you some in your back? Brilliant, I used to do that to my boy...well, once or twice at least.

  • I think I'd rather go to Doctor Pill than Doctor Pain :-)

That doesn't sound too awfully painful. Hope it works out for ya.
